Finding Your Authentic Self: The Journey to Purpose and Contentment
By

When you’re stuck in a miserable state of uncertainty, depression, dissatisfaction, or even that gnawing anxiety that eats at you like a parasite, these emotions are usually signs that your life is out of sync. Your life is not congruent with your authentic soul journey, and your purpose here on this planet. Even if you don’t believe you have a purpose.

First, I’d like to distill down how I view purpose – and it’s very simple. It’s simply to BE your unique frequency on this planet.

So, our soul purpose is not about accomplishing something, or doing something, or even fulfilling some idea of some perfect, amazing game-changer person. It’s just about being your unique vibrational frequency on this planet.

In layman’s terms, that means simply be who you are; the most authentic expression of yourself in every moment that you can manage.

Look at all the gorgeous beings in this photo… each of them just BEING their truest self. Do they need to do anything else?? How ridiculous to even suggest that they are not wondrously, gloriously enough. Just being who they authentically are.

Of course, as humans, it’s pretty difficult to be 100% authentic 100% of the time. But that I believe is the goal. Because if we can live in authentic alliance with our true desires, our likes, our dislikes, our passions, our difficulties, our constraints, our pickiness, our open-heartedness, whatever those words are – whether you class them as negative or positive – whatever those words are, if you can live in congruence with who you are as your most authentic self, that is the pathway to a fulfilling, peaceful, joy-filled life of purpose and contentment.

And let’s not downgrade contentment! To be content is a very powerful state of being. It embodies peace and joy and love – all together. It means you’re at rest, you’re exhaled. I think when you’re grounded, you’re content. I think when you’re connected within the matrix of all life and love on this planet throughout nature, all the beings humanity, that’s contentment. It’s knowing your place and resting in your place.

At this point, you may be asking yourself, but who is my truest, most authentic self? What is my unique vibration? What does my frequency sound look feel like? And these are all great questions.

If you don’t know the answer, you need to give yourself permission to move into experiences that will give you that opportunity and create that space for you to find out who you really are. Away from what your family wants and thinks, away from what your culture tells you, away from what your religion tells you and demands and expects. Away from images or lifestyles promoted by social media.

When you strip away every socioeconomic pressure and constraint and socialization, who and what is left?
And that is your unique, authentic self.

So for some of you that may mean, well, I need to go and live in a cabin by myself in the woods for two weeks, or six weeks, or two months, or a year. Your mind, body, soul knows what you need.

For me, that happened when I was 21. I finished university, and I purposely chose to go to Tokyo, Japan. Because at that time, there were hardly any non-Japanese people in Japan. I would go for days without seeing another foreigner. There was only Japanese people and Japanese culture, all around me for days and days. There was not a single sign in English. Nobody spoke English. So I put myself in a vacuum.

I did this purposely. Because, I thought to myself: if I strip away everything, my family, my culture, my religion, my socialization, even my language, if I render myself illiterate, who and what is left?

And that experience was worth, well, it was the foundation for the rest of my life. So travel is a fantastic way to discover who you really are. And try to travel to cultures that are extremely different from yours. Try to travel where you can’t speak the language, which is pretty hard now with Google Translate and everything else. But the more you can put yourself in a situation that’s completely different to anything you’ve experienced before, the more you create a space for your true, authentic vibration and frequency to be seen and heard and witnessed.

I hope that’s given you some ideas and some inspiration. And all I can promise you is that regardless of which direction you go in and what you discover, it will so 100% be worth it.
